ABOUT US

MIST is a group of eight independent schools, each rooted in and responsive to its local community.

Welcome to the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST)

At MIST, we’re proud to support a vibrant family of schools that share a strong foundation in the Christian values of faith, hope, love, justice, and service. These values aren’t just words; they shape how we lead, teach, and care for every member of our school communities.

What We Stand For

We believe education should be broad, compassionate, and transformative. That means nurturing the whole person and creating environments where every student and staff member feels seen, supported, and inspired to grow.

Each school in our network is unique, with its own character and strengths. But all are united by a shared mission and benefit from MIST’s strategic leadership, shared resources, and a deep commitment to holistic education.

We believe in nurturing the whole person and in creating communities where every individual is known, valued, and empowered to thrive.

– Ian McCaig, Chair of Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST)

How We Support Our Schools

We work closely with our schools to help them thrive not just academically, but as places where character is built, values are lived, and service to others is celebrated. Our support includes:

Leadership and governance that empowers schools to grow.

Resources and collaboration that strengthen teaching and learning.

A values-driven ethos that puts people first.

Associated and Affiliated Schools

Associated and Affiliated Schools are Methodist independent schools that share the values and ethos of MIST. These schools are not formally part of MIST, but they are encouraged to engage in meaningful collaboration, share best practices, and participate in joint initiatives.

This collaboration helps to strengthen the wider Methodist education community by promoting mutual support, professional development, and a shared commitment to high standards and values. While Associated and Affiliated Schools may receive support and guidance from MIST, they remain independently managed. Each school operates under its own governance arrangements, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a strong connection to the wider Methodist education community.
